Scaling Yoruba Knowledge for the Digital Age
The Yoruba Wikimedians User Group is more than a community of editors; we are a digital bridge between Yoruba heritage and the global information landscape. From standardizing orthography to documenting oral traditions, we lead strategic initiatives that ensure the Yoruba language and culture are accurately represented, preserved, and accessible on a global scale.
Our programs are designed to empower native speakers, collaborate with national institutions, and leverage the power of the Wikimedia movement to protect our cultural legacy.

Yoruba Oral Tradition Project
History isn’t just in books; it lives in the voices of our people. Our flagship initiative captures the intangible—digitizing folklore, deity histories, and the wisdom of indigenous vocations before they fade into silence.
Key Achievement Highlights:
Audiovisual Archiving: Over 40 documented sessions of Yoruba Warlords, Deities, and traditional crafts.
The Ifá Corpus: A specialized digital repository for the Ifá literary corpus, ensuring its survival for future generations.
National Recognition: This project is officially endorsed and recognized by the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM).

Engagement & Visibility
We conducted multiple Wikipedia awareness campaigns, organized thematic edit-a-thons, and actively engaged new contributors. This phase significantly increased participation and improved the quality and quantity of Yoruba-related content online.
Growth Phase
This period marked a significant expansion of our programs, with increased community outreach, more structured training sessions, and stronger collaborations with institutions. We enhanced contributor participation and deepened our impact across multiple regions.
